In early twentieth Century, Fischer synthesized the peptide with specific sequence for the first time.
In 1932, Bergmann and others used Benzoxy carbonyl group to protect alpha amino group, and the synthesis of peptides has made some progress.
In 1953, Vigneaud successfully synthesized the first polypeptide drug oxytocin (oxytocin).
In 1963, Merrifield successfully synthesized polypeptide sequence using resin as solid phase carrier, and created solid phase synthesis of polypeptide.
In the late 1960s, Merrifield invented the first fully automatic polypeptide synthesizer and synthesized bioprotease (124aa) for the first time.
In the 1970s, the discovery of enkephalin and other opioid-like peptides in the brain led to a new climax in the study of neuropeptides.
In 1972, Lou Carpino first used FMOC to protect the alpha amino group and was widely used.
In 1984, Merrifield won the Nobel prize in Chemistry for the invention of peptide solid phase synthesis technology.
